Sure, there are things you can do to increase willpower. Read THIS popular past WOW for the how-to on that topic.
But really when it comes to food, I say don’t rely on willpower. I think food willpower is a MYTH.
Instead rely on proximity power.
Listen, if there are cupcakes in the house, I will eat them. I’m a nutrition expert. I don’t even like sweets that much! But if they are there, I will eat them. I’m not weak. You’re not weak. Cupcakes are just delicious. BOTTOM LINE: In sight, in mouth. Out of sight, out of mouth.
Harness Proximity Power.
Here’s how:
– Stock smart choices. Keep your house packed w/ healthy & delish foods you WANT to be eating [like kale chips for potato chips or banana skinnies for ice cream] and when you do that, health will just naturally happen to you. Easy, breezy, beautiful.
– Keep temptation out. You won’t eat it if it’s not there. Period. “I need junk food in my house for my kids or husband.” Even if your kids or husband are a healthy weight, they don’t need easy access to junk. Instead, enjoy treats together out of the house, which makes indulgences a meaningful, fun event.
And hey…if nothing else, store temptation in the RIGHT place. Research found women eat 2x FEWER Hershey Kisses when they are in opaque containers on their desks instead of clear containers. And…they eat even FEWER when they are 6 feet away.
Proximity power, not willpower.
