For people living an active lifestyle and athletes at all levels, good nutrition is the key to better energy, performance, and recovery.
But, nutrition information can get confusing! Luckily there is a simple tool that can ensure you are getting the right balanced nutrition at every👏single👏meal.👏 It’s called the Performance Plate and it’s the tool I use with all of my clients from pro athletes to active gym goers.
A Performance Plate has 3 parts:
1. Complex Carbohydrate Foods… to FUEL cells and RESTORE energy.
2. Protein Foods… to help BUILD and REPAIR muscle.
3. Colorful Produce + Smart Fats… to PROTECT and SUPPORT cells.
Pro-Tip: Before each meal do what I call a “PLATE CHECK” to make sure you have all 3 parts on your plate to optimize your nutrition for performance and recovery.
A PLATE CHECK IS LOOKING AT YOUR PLATE TO MAKE SURE YOU HAVE 1) Complex Carbohydrates + 2) Protein Foods + 3) Colorful Produce and Smart Fats
Here are some examples of a balanced PLATE CHECK…
Breakfast: Veggie Scramble
1) grated potato
3) spinach + cheddar cheese
Lunch: Potato Burrito Bowl
1) roasted potato cubes
2) grilled chicken
3) romaine/sliced bell pepper/salsa + guacamole
Dinner: BBQ Salmon & Baked Fries
1) baked potato fries
2) BBQ salmon
3) roasted broccoli + olive oil
Notice each one of the examples contains POTATOES! And that’s because POTATOES are a nutrient-dense VEGGIE that provide complex carbohydrate and nutrients to fuel your fitness.
Impressive potato nutrition stats…
One medium 5.3 oz potato with the skin has:
💪Energy (only 110 calories)
💪Complex carbohydrates (the primary fuel source for the brain and working muscles)
💪Vitamin C (an excellent source; 27mg = 30% Daily Value)
💪Potassium (a good source; 620mg = 15% Daily Value)
💪Vitamin B6 (a good source; 0.2mg = 10% Daily Value)
💪Plus 2g fiber, 3g protein, and 1.1mg iron
There’s no need to make nutrition complicated! Simply do a PLATE CHECK to help you create balanced meals to support your energy, performance, and recovery. xx
