3 Steps for Happy, Healthy Eating
I was at the gym, and someone said to me: “You must eat so CLEAN. I just can’t be that good.”
I said: “I do care about what I eat, but I’m not strict. I eat what I crave, in a balanced, flexible way.”
Her comment reminded me: Many people think to get results or to eat “healthy” you have to be perfect, disciplined, and strict.
And actually the opposite is true.
The more perfect, disciplined, and strict you try to be, the more it becomes an all-or-nothing diet that won’t last.
For a truly healthy lifestyle, you need to eat for both physical wellness and mental satisfaction.
Here are the 3 STEPS I use every day to eat in a HAPPY & HEALTHY way…
STEP 1: EAT FILLING MEALS
Eat meals to truly satisfy hunger. Tiny “light” meals may sound virtuous, but they usually backfire.
When you don’t eat enough or you don’t eat balanced meals, your body fights back… cravings kick in, food preoccupation ramps up, and you feel out of control.
Eating filling, balanced meals upfront calms the food noise later. Read more about balanced meals HERE.
STEP 2: EAT WHAT YOU LIKE
Cravings aren’t the enemy — they’re information.
Instead of trying to ignore or “earn” your cravings, use them as inspiration. I call this your “Craving Compass.” Read more about it HERE.
Craving pizza? Eat it paired with a salad.
Want pasta? Eat it with chicken meatballs & veggies.
When you take into account your cravings, there’s no reason to go on and off a plan because you feel happy with what you are eating.
STEP 3: STAY FLEXIBLE
Flexibility is what makes healthy habits stick. It means making small shifts instead of scrapping everything when life gets busy, messy, or unpredictable.
Sometimes flexibility looks like swapping a planned workout for a walk, grabbing a balanced takeout meal when you’re short on time, or enjoying a treat without guilt and simply moving on.
The goal isn’t perfection — it’s staying in motion and treating yourself with care no matter what life throws your way.
FINAL THOUGHTS
It’s not about “eating clean,” “being good,” or getting it “right” every time. It’s about showing up each day to treat your body well AND enjoy your life.
The goal is to find the balance of giving your body’s cells the fuel they need to be energized AND living a life that has flexibility and fun.
Your diet should never stand in the way of experiences, socializing, or enjoying your life. Your diet should enhance all of those things!
Here’s to eating for HAPPY and healthy cells!
