People with celiac disease need to be GF but for everyone else… don’t just get on the fad-wagon!
Here are 3 facts about GF:
1) GF ≠ healthy.
Just because it says ‘gluten-free’ doesn’t mean it’s healthier. In fact, many GF products are less healthy because they are made with refined grains & binders.
2) You may feel AWESOME following a GF diet.
BUT…it’s not because you are taking gluten out! It’s because you are eating fewer baked goods, less processed junk food AND more naturally GF whole foods such as fruits, vegetables, lean protein, beans, nuts & seeds.
3) Whole GF grains can give you variety.
Go ahead & stock your house w/ whole GF grains such as oats, brown rice & quinoa. Not because gluten is the devil… but because it’s smart to enjoy a wide variety of foods to get a wide variety of nutrients.
Bottom line: Going GF isn’t a short-cut to health or weight loss. However, it is a good idea to eat more naturally GF foods such as fruits, vegetables, lean protein, beans, nuts & seeds and swap in some whole GF grains for variety.
