Advice A: Never have sweets, treats, alcohol.
Truth: This is unrealistic & unfun.
Advice B: Keep sweets, treat & alcohol at home, but just keep portions small.
Truth: This is a set-up for failure. A small portion of junk eaten regularly is not good. Plus, we all know that a moment of stress or boredom will lead to overdoing it if the junk is around.
BEST ADVICE: SOCIAL SWEETS, TREATS & ALCOHOL ONLY! Enjoy sweets, treats & alcohol anytime you want them….AS LONG AS THEY ARE SOCIAL & FUN! Never have junk at home & never have junk alone.
When you have junk alone & at home, it feels lazy & you usually regret it.
BUT, when you go to (or better yet, walk to) a local ice cream shop, bakery or bar…eat/drink there & really enjoy it…that feels thoughtful, deliberate & empowering.
STORY: I once gobbled up a cupcake alone in my car. Afterwards, I felt bingey & bad.
The next day I had a similar cupcake at a birthday party w/ friends. Afterwards, I felt happy & satisfied.
MORAL: It’s never the cupcake that’s the issue. It’s the SITUATION you eat the cupcake in that matters.
