In NYC a few weeks ago, I was at a healthy-ISH burger joint. I wanted to order a burger 🍔 in a lettuce wrap + a side salad, but I knew I would feel deprived if that’s all I ordered.
Then I saw the option to add CHOPPED FRIES 🍟 on top of my salad. That’s what I ordered…and this meal was the perfect balance of my inner health nut meets my inner wild child.
This past weekend I told my sister-in-law about this great discovery of SALAD TOPPER FRIES & urged her to try it. And she said, “I’ve always done that. I’m a PA girl and that’s a classic Pittsburgh thing.”
I couldn’t believe this. 🙀
Where has this info been all my life? Hot Fries on a Salad?!?! Fries are my new MAGICAL crouton.
I did end up googling this…and indeed there is an official salad called the “Pittsburg Salad” which always has 🍟 on top. It’s my new favorite thing. You gotta try it!
How To: Put chopped romaine + cucumber + tomato in a bowl. TOP with hot fries (100-ISH calories). Drizzle with homemade or store-bought ranch. Done. NOTE: Add protein like steak, chicken, egg, or chickpeas to make it a meal.
