Water is crucial for nearly every system in your body to function at its best. When I make an effort to drink more water I always feel BETTER… I feel less fatigued, I’m less sore after a workout, I have more focus at work, my mood is better, etc.
But sometimes drinking plain water ISN’T ENOUGH to optimally hydrate yourself….
Back in the 1970’s, the World Health Organization set a gold standard of hydration called “Oral Rehydration Solution.” It’s a magic combo of water + electrolytes [primarily sodium] + a little glucose [sugar] that work together to get water into your cells QUICKER than water alone.
when you feel blah
on hot summer days
before/after sweaty workouts
after a night of drinking
Pedialyte & Gatorade are classic hydration drinks w/ electrolytes [salt] + glucose [sugar], but I’ve got a more natural way…
8 ounces water +
8 ounces coconut water [glucose] +
1/4 teaspoon sea salt [electrolytes] +
2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
34 cals, 494mg sodium, 8g sugar
112 cals, 216mg sodium, 27g sugar
Electrolyte Lemonade (16oz):
40 cals, 620mg sodium, 7g sugar
– no ADDED sugar
– no artificial colors or flavors
WOW Challenge: Drink an electrolyte lemonade before your next workout & see if you feel the difference. It’s my favorite fitness booster.
