Since warmer weather is upon us, and hydration is critical, why not get more bang for your buck when hydrating.
Here are 6 EASY WATER UPGRADES you can do w/ stuff you likely have in your kitchen right now…
💦1. Workouts: Sea Salt + OJ
This combo will hydrate your cells QUICKER than water alone! The sea salt adds the electrolyte sodium while the orange juice adds a little glucose energy & other electrolytes like potassium, calcium, and magnesium. Drink before/after a sweaty workout, but also great anytime you’re feeling dehydrated, like first thing in the morning, on a hot summer day, or after a night of drinking.
How to: Squeeze the juice of 1 orange (~1/4 cup) into 8 ounces of water + stir in 1/16 teaspoon of sea salt.
💦2. Cravings: Vinegar
Vinegar helps to keep blood sugar levels steady, which may help reduce food cravings.
How to: Add 1 tablespoon of vinegar into 8 ounces of water. Note: The most popular vinegar to use is apple cider vinegar.
💦3. Focus: Cinnamon
Cinnamon is a brain booster because it contains phytochemicals that may help the brain better use glucose energy.
How to: Heat 1/2 cup water, add 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon, let sit for a few minutes, then top with cold water.
💦4. Gut Health: Chia Seeds
Research suggests chia seeds may strengthen gut cells & help good bacteria thrive. Plus chia is a fiber powerhouse (1 tablespoon has 5g) so adding it to water can help keep digestion running smoothly.
How to: Stir 1 tablespoon of chia seeds into 8 ounces of water. You can also add a squeeze of lemon juice + monk fruit or stevia for a lemonade version! 🍋
💦6. Immunity: Turmeric
Turmeric is known for its anti-inflammatory benefits and studies also suggest it’s an immune booster since it activates our natural killer cells.
How to: Heat 1/2 cup water, add 1/2 teaspoon turmeric + a pinch of black pepper, let sit for a few minutes, then top with cold water. Optional: Stir in a little honey to round out the flavor.🍯
