Do you have a positive relationship with food?
And who cares? Are there meaningful benefits to having a positive relationship with food?
I came across a research study with an 8-question POSITIVE EATING QUIZ to measure eating attitude. A positive eating attitude is important because it may have some big health benefits.
People with a positive eating attitude tend to:
– Weigh less
– Choose healthier foods
– Have better metabolic health
– Experience less negative overeating
8 questions to rate your eating attitude
PART 1: Satisfaction with Eating
Assesses feelings of contentment & relaxation around food, without worry or restriction…
1. I eat in a way that makes me feel good.
2. Overall, I am satisfied with my eating behavior.
3. I am relaxed about eating.
4. I have a good relationship with eating.
Part 2: Pleasure when Eating
Evaluates how much joy is experienced while eating…
5. Eating is a pleasure for me.
6. I enjoy eating.
7. Eating is fun for me.
8. Eating is something nice for me.
What does your score mean?
Score 25-32: Celebrate Your Positive Eating Mindset
Scoring 25-32 indicates a strong, positive relationship with food. You experience joy and satisfaction from eating and approach food with a healthy, balanced mindset.
ADVICE: Keep up your positive habits! Continue to embrace your enjoyable approach to food and look for ways to keep it fresh, like trying new cuisines or cooking styles. Share your positive eating attitude with others and inspire them to find joy in food as well.
Score 17-24: Grow Your Positive Eating Attitude
With a score between 17-24, you’re on the path to a positive relationship with food but may still have areas to explore and strengthen. You likely enjoy your food experiences but might feel a mix of satisfaction and restraint.
ADVICE: Keep enhancing your positive eating by tuning into your body’s cues, like hunger and fullness, and savoring each meal mindfully. Try to include a variety of foods that make you feel energized and satisfied, and remember that eating can be a time for enjoyment and self-care.
Score 8-16: Build a Positive Relationship with Food
If your score falls within 8-16, you may benefit from focusing on developing a more positive approach to eating. Right now, food might feel more like a task or a source of stress rather than a source of enjoyment and satisfaction.
ADVICE: Start small by identifying one or two aspects of eating that bring you joy, like trying new recipes, enjoying meals without distractions, or savoring your favorite foods. Practice letting go of restrictive thoughts and focus on what you enjoy about each meal.
