You found it. You broke up with it. You swapped it. And you still have cravings.
Below are some fun science-backed SUGAR CRAVING BUSTERS…
PS: Some of these may seem WACKY 😜, but there IS some research on them. Here’s how I see it: These ideas won’t hurt you, they may help you… so why not give them a try!
6 SUGAR CRAVING BUSTERS
1) VINEGAR
Research suggests the acetic acid in vinegar may help balance blood sugar levels & craving spikes.
HOW TO: Add 1 tablespoon of vinegar to a meal or two each day. Add it to your water, put it on salads, or drizzle it on grilled veggies.
2) PROBIOTIC FOODS
Unhealthy bacteria in our gut may cause cravings by changing our taste buds, influencing our hormones, and hijacking signals to our brain. Build the good bacteria in your gut w/ probiotic foods.
HOW TO: Add sauerkraut to a lunch wrap or guacamole or try unsweetened plain kefir as the base of smoothies or poured over low-sugar granola & berries.
3) GREENERY
Seeing greenery is linked to fewer & less intense cravings.
HOW TO: Take a walk in nature or buy an indoor green plant.
4) TAPPING
A study found tapping your forehead for 30 seconds decreased food cravings. Tapping distracts you & it may stimulate an acupressure region that reduces stress hormone levels.
HOW TO: When you want something sweet, tap your forehead for 30 seconds, it may just decrease the craving.
5) VANILLA
Research suggests vanilla’s scent may help decrease cravings for sweets & chocolate. Plus new research finds adding vanilla to foods makes them taste sweet without as much sugar.
HOW TO: Smell vanilla extract when a sweet craving hits, put on vanilla lip gloss, or light a vanilla candle. And add vanilla to coffee, tea, smoothies, oatmeal, etc.
6) GYMNEMA SYLVESTRE
Research suggests that gymnema sylvestre impairs the ability to taste sugar by blocking sweet receptors on the tongue.
HOW TO: Drink gymnema tea when you have a sweet tooth. Effects will last 30-60 min after drinking.
BONUS CRAVING BUSTER
Delay, don’t deprive. If there’s something you crave, don’t tell yourself you can’t have it. Instead, promise yourself you’ll wait awhile, and if you truly want it later it’ll be yours. 💫
