The nutrition world can be pretty darn negative.
Always focusing on what you should cut out, restrict, or avoid. Pushing a boot camp mentality that you need to have more discipline, get more serious. Selling the end results of your physical body, with no regard to your holistic health or mental wellness. And definitely not prioritizing joy.
And this is all wrong.
We need to blow up this old model and use what actually WORKS AND FEELS GOOD. And that’s what I call: POSITIVE NUTRITION.
POSITIVE NUTRITION is all about what you can ADD to your routine. This more POSITIVE APPROACH TO NUTRITION helps you feel more confident, strong, inspired, motivated, energized, healthy, and happy. It helps you feel more positive about your body, nutrition, and exercise. Read on to learn a more POSITIVE way of eating & living…
✨5 PILLARS OF POSITIVE NUTRITION✨
PILLAR 1: ADD nourishing foods.
Start where you are and ADD more nutrition. So many people wear their list of what they avoid as a badge of honor, “Oh me, no I don’t eat XYZ.”
I teach the ✨opposite✨ of this. I teach people to focus on the quality of what they are actually eating. Because it’s the foods you actually eat that create your energy, vitality, and health.
Instead of cutting foods out, focus on the positive additions you can make. Let more nourishing foods energize your cells, improve your mood, and change your cravings naturally.
Here are some ideas of what to ADD to boost nutrition:
✨ Water; about 1/2 your body weight in ounces daily (read more here)
✨ Protein; especially at breakfast (read more here)
✨ Veggies; 3 cups daily
✨ Fruit; 2 cups daily
✨ Nuts; 1/4 cup daily
✨ Beans; 1/2 cup, 3 times per week
✨ Fish; 2x/week (read more here)
✨ Fermented Foods; 2x/day (read more here)
PILLAR 2: ADD satisfaction.
The secret to consistency and motivation isn’t having more discipline, it’s having more satisfaction! More fun! When you feel satisfied and are enjoying your nutrition routine, your natural motivation system is activated.
Think about it: If you are doing something that isn’t enjoyable, you don’t want to keep doing it. But when you do something you actually enjoy, you naturally want to keep doing it. Without forcing it!
Here are some ideas of what to ADD to boost satisfaction:
✨ Breathe deeply for a few rounds before eating to feel more connected & mindful.
✨ Turn on meal mood music like Spotify’s “Pop Goes Classical.”
✨ “Eat Pretty” (read more here).
✨ Tune-in to your inner WILD CHILD to make sure they are loving the meal (read more here).
PILLAR 3: ADD confident ownership.
Diet culture teaches us to feel guilt and shame about so many of our food decisions. Positive Nutrition is about silencing that inner judgment and becoming the confident owner, a.k.a. BOSS, of your food decisions.
Here’s how to ADD more confident ownership: Slow down, tune-in, and make a food decision that feels good to you for BOTH your health & your happiness. Then own it, enjoy it, and move on. Nothing feels more empowering & liberating!
PILLAR 4: ADD kind self-talk.
You are only as healthy as your self-talk. The is no possible way you can live a healthy & happy life if you have a critical voice judging you, beating you down, and demotivating you. Your health is not just about the foods you put in your body, but also the thoughts you allow to be there.
Here are some ideas of what to ADD to boost kind self-talk:
✨ Catch yourself doing good things.
✨ Throw actual or figurative confetti for small daily wins.
✨ Be your own hype-person with affirmations like: You’ve got this, You are powerful, Anything is possible, I believe in you.
✨ Keep a picture of yourself as a kid nearby to remember your inner child needs you to be loving & gentle.
PILLAR 5: ADD daily joy.
“Joy is a Nutrient” which means joy is something that’s necessary for overall well-being and health. Joy can boost immunity, keep the stress hormone cortisol in check, and keep motivation to eat well and exercise strong. Note: If you struggle with emotional eating, it’s a clue that you likely have a joy deficiency.
Prioritizing joy in all parts of our day, especially those routine, ordinary habits like eating, is an important practice for holistic health & well-being. Read more >>HERE<< about how to ADD DAILY JOY. xx
